Transforming Spaces, Empowering People, and Growing Together
Prevost Rutherford
Urban Garden
Our Mission
PRUG is a green space that promotes health and well-being
through gardening, community collaboration, and education.
Gardening
Preserving the ancestral tradition of gardening while providing access to healthy foods, herbs, and flowers utilizing sustainable methods.
Collaboration
Decreasing the generational gap between elders and youth while providing opportunities to work together collectively to accomplish a shared vision.
Education
Integrated learning, programs, and activities using the garden and the art of horticulture as the foundation to create experiences for youth, elders, and the community.
About PRUG
Prevost Rutherford Urban Garden (PRUG) is currently under construction and is being created to exchange ideas, skills, traditions, and wisdom. PRUG plans to create opportunities for food accessibility, a mediation space featuring an herb garden with medicinal plants that are native to Michigan for the use of healing, and a cut flower garden. PRUG will teach the art of horticulture through plant cultivation and management while making space to connect with the Earth.
Creating the capacity to empower the neighborhood is an integral part of giving back to the community as PRUG will provide a space for beautification, revitalization, service, and education.

Our Vision
Mediation Garden
The Mediation Garden will provide a peaceful space for visitors to meditate, practice mindfulness, or simply relax in a serene environment. The Mediation Garden will feature carefully arranged rocks, native medicinal and pollinator plants, and other natural elements that promote tranquility and inner peace.
Seating
A variety of seating options will be available to provide visitors with comfortable places to sit, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the garden. These accommodations will be adequately placed throughout the space to offer different perspectives of the natural surroundings.
Raised Beds
The raised beds will be used to construct a free-standing garden that will increase accessibility, assist with better water retention and drainage, and easy to maintain. The beds will provide a controlled space to grow vegetables, herbs, and fruits.
Pathways
The pathways will wind throughout PRUG providing visitors easy access through each section of the garden while keeping their feet dry to stroll and taking in the beauty of the space or taking a brisk healthy walk.
